02 Feb Guides to Vaccinating and Worming Your Spanish Horse
If you have ever asked the question, “which wormer should I use?”, you’ll know that people will try to wriggle (excuse the pun) out of giving a direct answer.
Knowing which wormer to use and when is a minefield, similarly, it’s hard to always remember at what age you should start a foal or horse’s flu and tetanus vaccinations.
There’s a lot involved in caring for your Purebred Spanish Horse (PRE) and you don’t always have a vet on hand to help or remind you. So we, together with the help of an experienced vet, have put together a couple of simple guides to worming your horse and vaccinating your horse.
As well as a ‘dummies guide’ each has an easy to follow programme or schedule which you can download or print, which will help to serve as a memory prompt when you can’t remember the difference between Eqvalan and Equest or instead of instinctively knowing that you can start a foal’s flu & vet vaccinations from 5 months (using Proteq) you just get a blank.
We’ve also included a guide to Equine Herpes Virus (EHV), which being regarded as one of the most common reasons for aborted pregnancies, is of particular relevance to PRE studs and Spanish horse breeders.
Our guides are designed to help the average horse owner or breeder, they are by no means an alternative to seeking veterinary advice! Each horse is an individual and may need very specific treatment, so if in doubt, consult your vet.
